Philadelphia has a lot of wonderful venues but Bok takes it to another level. If you’ve never been to a Bok Bar Wedding, you really have to get yourself invited to one, lol. I was lucky to be able to photograph a wedding there years ago when it was a newer venue and have been a handful of times since then. Its’ ever changing and amazing to watch transform. There are so many great nooks and crannies, endless spaces and rooms galore to photograph in.
Alex and I had our inquiry over the phone for her Bok wedding and I was so excited I don’t think I was very good at hiding it. It’s almost like we are taught not to show our poker face when meeting clients, don’t let people know how excited you might be to possibly work with them or at their venue, but most of the time, that flys out the window with me. If I’m excited about you or where you’re getting married – there is no doubt I will show it.
The Wedding
The day of was a beautiful September day. Alex and her wedding party got ready at Hotel Monaco, which is a great spot for getting ready. Hotel Monaco’s rooms have great light and are spacious, which was perfect for all of Alex’s wedding party. Getting ready is a favorite time of day because some of the sweetest moments happen then. Alex and her Grandmother had a really special moment (the first of many favorites), when her Grandmother gave her a bracelet to wear. Alex clearly cares a ton about each and every person that was in the room with her. Before we left for her first look with Kevin, she took a moment to hug (and really, really hug…not just a one arm around you kind of hug) each and every person. There were lots of tears and excitement for the rest of the day.
Kevin was waiting patiently for Alex in a park nearby their home. Their two French Bulldogs accompanied him for their first look. Their first look was everything and the dogs were just as excited to have their humans together again.
After making our way back to Bok, they set up for their rooftop ceremony. Alex and Kevin had a friend officiate and they signed their marriage license privately. (Yet another favorite moment).
Sweet moments
The rest of the night was a beautiful joining of two people who were so meant to be together. From the sweet moments during the ceremony, to laughing like crazy while Alex wiped the sweat from Kevin’s brow. The wedding party flying onto the reception floor together before Alex and Kevin were announced for the first time as husband and wife. The epic dance party with the Philadelphia skyline in the background and even better, the nightcap of Federal Donuts and Chicken sandwiches.
Alex and Kevin, it was such a blast to be a part of your day. Anytime you want a family photo session with my two favorite pups, you know I’ll be there in a heartbeat!
